Product Details

Agave parryi 'Truncata' is a stunning, slow-growing succulent known as the Artichoke Agave for its dense, symmetrical rosette of thick, blue-gray leaves. This hardy perennial offers architectural interest to landscapes with its compact form and dramatic foliage.

  • Foliage: The thick, wide, powdery blue-gray leaves have a distinctive artichoke-like shape. Each leaf has conspicuous reddish-brown teeth along its margins and a prominent, sharp terminal spine.
  • Size: The Artichoke Agave typically grows to a mature size of 2 to 3 feet tall and 3 to 4 feet wide.
  • Flowers: As a monocarpic plant, a mature rosette will flower only once in its lifetime, typically after 10–20 years. It sends up a magnificent, tall flower spike, which can reach 15 to 20 feet high, topped with clusters of yellow flowers. The mother rosette dies after flowering, but the offsets ensure the plant continues.
  • Hardiness: It is very drought-tolerant and also one of the most cold-hardy agaves, capable of withstanding temperatures down to 10–15°F, especially in dry conditions. It thrives in USDA hardiness zones 8 and higherIdeal growing conditions
  • Sun: Prefers full sun but can tolerate light shade in the hottest climates.
  • Soil: Requires well-draining, gritty soil. Good drainage is critical to prevent root rot.
  • Water: Needs very little water. Allow the soil to dry out completely between infrequent waterings, especially during winter dormancy.Landscape use
  • Containers: Its symmetrical rosette and moderate size make it an excellent specimen for decorative containers.
  • Gardens: Perfect for rock gardens, xeriscapes, or as a structural accent in sunny borders.
  • Caution: Due to its sharp spines, plant it away from walkways or high-traffic areas.
