Product Details

The O'Neal blueberry is a Southern highbush variety known for its very sweet, firm, and large berries, considered by many to have the best flavor among Southern highbush blueberries. It's also an early ripening variety, with berries ripening in June. O'Neal is a self-pollinating variety, but yields can be increased by planting it alongside another Southern highbush variety.

Key characteristics of O'Neal blueberries:

  • Flavor: Very sweet and firm berries.
  • Ripening: Early ripening, berries ready in June.
  • Size: Large berries.
  • Bush: Upright, spreading bush, reaching 4-6 feet tall.
  • Foliage: Attractive gray-green foliage with red-accented stems.
  • Chill hours: Requires around 400-500 chill hours.
  • USDA Zones: Suitable for USDA Zones 5-9.
  • Pollination: Self-pollinating, but yields can be increased with cross-pollination from another Southern highbush variety.

O'Neal is a popular variety for both commercial and home gardeners, particularly in the Southern and Gulf States. It's also known for its attractive fall foliage, with leaves turning orange and wine-red.
