The Edgeworthia chrysantha, or Paperbush, is a medium-sized, mounding deciduous shrub with a rounded form, typically reaching 4-6 feet in height and width. It is known for its distinctive appearance, including cinnamon-colored, papery bark with silver hairs on the branch tips, and lush, dark green leaves. Its most notable feature is the fragrant, butter-yellow, tubular flowers that bloom in dense clusters on the bare stems from late winter to early spring, long before the leaves emerge. The common name "Paperbush" refers to its inner bark, which is used to make high-quality paper, including that for Japanese banknotes.
