Yellow Flag Iris, Iris pseudacorus, is a very hardy and easily grown plant that produces canary yellow flowers in mid- to late-spring which are held on sturdy stalks that rise above the above 3 to 4' vertical green foliage. A great plant for the margins of the garden pond, where it should be planted in a container that is submerged, but can also be grown in average garden soil. When grown in the garden, the plant spreads by rhizomes to form patches in the garden. Though it prefers boggy to wet soils, it tolerates drought quite well. Avoid planting this Iris in the margins of natural bodies of water such as lakes, fish ponds, or swamps as it is known to be invasive in certain regions.
