The Kousa dogwood is a small, decidsous tree native to Asia, known for its showy spring flowers (actually white or pink tinged bracts), distinctive exfoliating bark that reveals tan, gray and brown colors, and unique red, edible fruit resembling large raspberries. It grows into a rounded shape from a vase-like form in its youth, reaching 15 to 30 feet tall, and is noted for its good disease resistance, attractive fall color, and tolerance for urban conditions.
