_____________
The image is of the San Estévan del Rey Mission Church at the Acoma Pueblo in New Mexico.
The church was built between 1629 and 1641 by the Acoma people under the orders of the Spanish.
It is one of the oldest continuously occupied communities in the United States, situated atop a mesa over 360 feet above the ground.
The massive adobe walls of the church are up to 7 feet wide, and the large wooden roof beams (vigas) were transported by Acoma labor from 30 miles away.
It is a National Historic Landmark and a significant example of hybrid Spanish Colonial and Puebloan architectural styles.
