___________
This is a vintage postcard featuring the Gov. William Preston Lane Jr. Memorial Bridge, commonly known as the Chesapeake Bay Bridge.
The bridge spans the Chesapeake Bay, connecting Maryland's Eastern and Western Shores.
The original span, seen in the image, opened in 1952.
At the time of its opening, it was the world's longest continuous over-water steel structure.
A parallel span was later added in 1973.
