The image is a vintage postcard featuring the Astoria Column, a concrete and steel monument in Astoria, Oregon.
Erected in 1926, the column stands 125 feet tall atop Coxcomb Hill, the site of the first permanent American settlement west of the Rockies.
The exterior features a unique sgraffito-style painted mural depicting historical events of the region, including Captain Gray's arrival and the Lewis and Clark Expedition.
Visitors can climb 164 spiral steps to an observation deck for panoramic views of the Columbia River and the Pacific Ocean.
It was dedicated by the Great Northern Railway as part of a plan for 12 monuments along a route between Astoria and Minnesota.
