____________
This vintage postcard depicts the former U.S. Post Office and Court House building located at 295 Water Street in Augusta, Maine. The historic building, opened in 1890, is a notable example of Romanesque Revival architecture.
The building was designed by Mifflin E. Bell and William Alfred Freret, supervising architects for the U.S. Treasury Department.
It is constructed of Hallowell granite and features a central tower, round arches, and a truncated hip roof.
The structure served as Augusta's post office until 1960 and is now known as the Old Federal Building.
It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.
