_________
This is an aerial photograph postcard of Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine in Baltimore, Maryland.
The star-shaped fort is famous for its role in the War of 1812, when it successfully defended Baltimore Harbor from a British naval attack in September 1814.
The fort's valiant defense inspired Francis Scott Key to write the poem "The Defence of Fort McHenry," which later became the lyrics to the U.S. national anthem, "The Star-Spangled Banner".
Construction of the fort began in 1798 and was completed around 1803, replacing an earlier Revolutionary War-era fort.
The fort is located on the eastern tip of the peninsula formed by the Patapsco River and is now a National Park operated by the National Park Service.
