________
The mansion was built in 1863-1864 by Lemuel "Sandy" Bowers and his wife Eilley Orrum Bowers, who were among Nevada's first mining millionaires from the Comstock Lode.
The architectural style is a blend of Georgian and Italianate, constructed with granite and sandstone quarried from the hills behind the house.
It is now part of the Washoe County Bowers Mansion Regional Park, a popular spot for picnics, swimming, and tours.
The mansion is listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.
