The image is a postcard view of the Clover Hill Tavern group of buildings at the Appomattox Court House National Historical Park in Virginia.
The Clover Hill Tavern, built in 1819, is the oldest structure in the village of Appomattox Court House.
The village of Appomattox Court House was originally known as Clover Hill.
On April 10, 1865, Union soldiers used the tavern to set up printing presses and produce over 30,000 parole documents for the surrendered Confederate soldiers.
The site is historically significant as the location where the American Civil War effectively ended with General Robert E. Lee's surrender to General Ulysses S. Grant.
