____________
This vintage postcard depicts the Oneonta Tunnel on the Historic Columbia River Highway in Oregon.
The 125-foot tunnel was originally opened in 1914 as part of the new scenic highway.
Engineers blasted the tunnel through the cliffside to navigate a narrow passage where railroad tracks occupied the riverbank.
Traffic was redirected around the tunnel in 1948, and it was filled with rubble.
It has since been excavated and restored for pedestrian use as part of the highway's ongoing preservation efforts.
