The image shows the Centre Family Dwelling House at Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill in Harrodsburg, Kentucky. This historic building is part of the largest restored Shaker community in the United States.
The Shaker community at Pleasant Hill was active from 1805 to 1910.
The Centre Family Dwelling House is the largest building in the village, spanning nearly 25,000 square feet.
It was constructed from limestone quarried by the Shakers themselves from the nearby Kentucky River palisades.
The building housed as many as 80 men and women who lived communally but maintained strict separation of the sexes.
Today, the site is a National Historic Landmark and a living history center with 34 original buildings, offering overnight stays and educational exhibits.
