The monument is an obelisk, similar in design to the one at Bunker Hill.
It sits at the highest natural elevation in New Jersey, at 1,803 feet (550 m) above sea level.
Construction began in 1928, and the monument was dedicated on June 21, 1930.
The land surrounding the monument was a gift to the state from Colonel Anthony R. Kuser and his wife Susie Dryden Kuser.
