_______________
This is the original Hancher Auditorium at the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa.
Designed by architect Max Abramovitz, the building opened in 1972 and served as a major cultural icon for the university and the state for over 30 years.
It was named in honor of Virgil Melvin Hancher, who served as the thirteenth president of the University of Iowa from 1940 to 1964.
The facility was severely damaged by a historic flood in 2008, which led to its closure and the eventual construction of a new replacement auditorium.
Demolition of the original structure, shown in this image, began in September 2013 to make way for future campus developments.
