Memorial Hall is the centerpiece of the Cumberland University campus.
The building was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977.
During World War II, the Second Army took over Memorial Hall in 1942 to use as the Maneuver Director Headquarters for training soldiers.
The university was established as Cumberland College in 1842 under the Presbyterian Church, which operated it for a century until 1946.
