The image shows the Chapel of the Cross, a historic Episcopal church located in the Mannsdale area of Madison, Mississippi.
The church was built circa 1850–52 by enslaved people and is a notable example of Gothic Revival architecture.
Its design was inspired by 14th-century English country churches, featuring a sharply tipped roof and pointed arch doorways.
It was designed by British architect Frank Wills and consecrated in September 1852 by the first Episcopal Bishop of Mississippi, William Mercer Green.
The chapel was originally constructed for the Johnstone family, owners of the nearby Annandale Plantation.
