The college was founded in Kansas City, Missouri, in 1892 as the Scarritt Bible and Training School for Women Missionaries and relocated to Nashville in 1924.
The campus, including the memorial building shown, is now home to the Scarritt Bennett Center, a nonprofit conference and retreat center.
Scarritt College was one of the first white private colleges in Tennessee to integrate in 1952.
The college closed in 1988.
