The image is a vintage postcard featuring the San Estévan del Rey Mission Church at the Acoma Pueblo in New Mexico.
The church is a National Historic Landmark and is located in one of the oldest continuously inhabited communities in the United States.
Construction began in 1629 under the direction of Franciscan Friar Juan Ramirez and took 12 years to complete using local materials, including massive adobe bricks.
The structure's walls are up to 7 feet wide, and the 1-ton roof beams (vigas) were transported by Acoma laborers from a distance of 30 miles.
It is the only mission church to have survived the Pueblo Revolt of 1680.
The austere, unadorned facade with thick, windowless walls gives the building an imposing quality.
