____________
The image shows the preserved Chesapeake & Ohio Railway (C&O) No. 2716 steam locomotive. It is a K-4 class 2-8-4 "Kanawha" type locomotive, built in 1943 by the American Locomotive Company (ALCO).
The C&O referred to these 2-8-4 type locomotives as Kanawhas after the Kanawha River in West Virginia.
No. 2716 was used by the Southern Railway in excursion service during the early 1980s, even though Southern never owned any 2-8-4 locomotives.
The locomotive is now owned by the Kentucky Railway Museum and is currently undergoing restoration efforts by the Kentucky Steam Heritage Corp. to make it operational again.
The locomotive served in a variety of duties for the C&O until it was retired from revenue service in 1956.
