Opened on December 17, 1947, the 12-story Mapes Hotel was the first high-rise hotel built in the United States after World War II and was the tallest building in Nevada at the time.
It was a significant model for future large-scale hotel casinos.
The hotel was located in downtown Reno, alongside the Truckee River.
The building was imploded on January 30, 2000.
