_________
The image is a vintage postcard featuring the Maine Central Railroad's EMD F3A diesel locomotive number 683.
The locomotive, built by the Electro-Motive Division (EMD) of General Motors, was part of Maine Central's first order for diesel freight locomotives in the late 1940s.
It is depicted pulling a passenger train, although these F3 units primarily served as freight locomotives.
The F3A model was a successful cab unit diesel, widely used across North American railroads in both freight and passenger service.
Maine Central eventually traded in their F3 locomotives for EMD GP38s in 1966.
