This image depicts the Spreckels Organ Pavilion in Balboa Park, San Diego, California. The postcard captures the Neo-classical architecture of the venue, home to the world's largest outdoor pipe organ.
The Pavilion and its organ were a gift to the city from brothers John D. and Adolph B. Spreckels for the 1915 Panama-California Exposition.
Designed by architect Harrison Albright, the structure faces north to protect the 5,000+ pipes from the sun.
The Spreckels Organ Society continues the tradition of free public concerts every Sunday afternoon, a stipulation of the original gift.
The venue is a central part of Balboa Park, a 1,200-acre urban cultural park that also contains museums and the San Diego Zoo.
