_________

The image shows a vintage postcard of the original Water Works building in Sedalia, Missouri, which was a significant infrastructure project for the burgeoning railroad city in the late 19th century.
History
The city of Sedalia built its first water works system, using the Holly system, which was inaugurated on October 17, 1872.
The original source of water was Flat Creek, located three miles south of town, but this supply proved insufficient during droughts.
The water works system was eventually sold to a private firm, which later became the Sedalia Water Company, in 1887.
The city repurchased the utility in 1957 and currently operates its water department using deep wells and a modern filtration plant completed in 2001.
Current Status
The specific red brick building pictured in the postcard is no longer in use as the city's main water facility. The Sedalia Water Department currently operates from a different location at 6500 Water Works Rd, and has a new lab and filtration plant.
