_________
The image is of the historic Burnside Bridge at the Antietam National Battlefield in Sharpsburg, Maryland.
The stone arch bridge was built in 1836 and originally known as the Rohrbach or Lower Bridge.
It was a key strategic point during the Battle of Antietam on September 17, 1862, the bloodiest single-day battle in American history.
A small contingent of Confederate soldiers held the bridge for approximately three hours against repeated Union assaults before Union General Ambrose Burnside's forces finally captured it.
The bridge was actively used for traffic until 1966, when a bypass was built and the bridge was restored to its 1862 appearance as a historical landmark.
