_______
This is a vintage postcard featuring the Bjorklund Hotel (also known as the Colony Hotel) in Bishop Hill, Illinois.
The hotel was originally built around 1852 as a dwelling for the colonists of the utopian religious community established in 1846 by Swedish immigrants.
The building became a hotel after the colony decided against using the Steeple Building for that purpose.
The community is now a state historic site, preserving the unique architecture and heritage of the 19th-century settlement.
The site is a National Historic Landmark and an important example of mid-nineteenth-century communitarian settlements in the United States.
