This vintage linen postcard features the iconic Mission San Francisco Solano de Sonoma, California, the 21st and last mission founded by the Franciscan Fathers. Established on July 4th, 1823 by Father Jose Altimira and twenty soldiers, this mission is located in Sonoma, just 50 miles north of San Francisco. It holds the distinction of being the most northerly mission in the California mission chain. The postcard is part of the "Pictorial Wonderland" Art-Tone Series, printed by Stanley A. Piltz of San Francisco.
The card's linen texture and vibrant color printing are characteristic of mid-20th century American postcard production, enhancing the historic and picturesque appeal of this landmark. The image showcases the mission's adobe structure with its distinctive cross, blooming flowers, and surrounding greenery against a bright blue sky, making it a collectible piece for enthusiasts of California history, architecture, and vintage travel memorabilia.
