_________

The image is a postcard of the original Sunshine Skyway Bridge across Tampa Bay in Florida.

The original two-lane steel cantilever bridge opened in 1954.
The bridge in the image was partially destroyed when it was struck by a freighter during a storm on May 9, 1980, an event that resulted in 35 fatalities.
Remnants of the old bridge now serve as the north and south fishing piers.
The current, cable-stayed bridge, which replaced the old one, opened in 1987 and is considered Florida's flagship bridge.

Postcard Size: Standard Vintage 3 1/2 by 5 1/2
