__________
This is the Chicago South Shore & South Bend Railroad Electric Locomotive #803, also known as a "Little Joe" locomotive.
It is the largest operating electric locomotive in North America.
The locomotives were originally built by General Electric for export to the Soviet Union, but the sale was canceled due to the Cold War.
Three of these units were eventually purchased by the Chicago South Shore and South Bend Railroad for freight service.
This specific locomotive, #803, is preserved and is the only operational "Little Joe" remaining.
The nickname "Little Joe" was given by a Milwaukee Road employee, reportedly after Joseph Stalin.
