The chapel was constructed between 1925 and 1926 and dedicated in January 1927.
It was designed in the Colonial Revival style by the notable New York architectural firm McKim, Mead & White.
The building is a prominent landmark on the UVM campus, known for its 165-foot gold-domed bell tower.
It was funded by philanthropist James B. Wilbur in commemoration of Ira Allen, the founder of UVM.
