This vintage postcard depicts the Pension Office in Washington, D.C., which is now the home of the National Building Museum.
The building was constructed between 1882 and 1887 to house the headquarters of the U.S. Pension Bureau.
It was designed by Quartermaster General Montgomery C. Meigs, who modeled the exterior on the Palazzo Farnese in Rome.
The Pension Building is known for being the largest brick building in the world.
Besides housing government workers, the building has also been used for ceremonial occasions, including presidential inaugural balls.
The building is a distinctive destination of the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
